- Real Madrid are preparing a £100M bid for Manchester City’s Rodri
- The Ballon d’Or winning midfielder missed most of last season due to a serious knee injury
- His current contract expires in 2027
Key Takeaways:
Real Madrid are considering making a £100 million offer to try and sign Ballon d’Or winner Rodri from Manchester City, according to The Sun. Xabi Alonso, the new manager of Los Blancos, has identified the signing of a defensive central midfielder as one of the key priorities in this summer’s transfer window.
For weeks, various names have been linked to the position at Santiago Bernabeu, with Angelo Stiller from Stuttgart being mentioned. A few days ago, another interesting report surfaced, claiming Xabi Alonso had a disagreement with the club’s hierarchy after they told him they were only prepared to make a major financial offer for a player of the highest class.

This now seems to be confirmed by news that Real are preparing an impressive bid for Rodri in an attempt to tempt both Manchester City and the player himself. The Spanish international missed the entire past campaign after suffering a serious knee injury during the 2:2 draw with Arsenal in September. He returned to action during the Club World Cup, recording one start and three substitute appearances, but City were surprisingly knocked out by Al-Hilal in the quarter-finals.
Rodri has been previously linked with Real Madrid, but currently has just two years left on his contract. Should he refuse to renew, he would enter the final year of his deal next summer, which would likely lead to a notable drop in his market value. Rodri joined City from Real’s cross-town rivals Atletico.
Real Madrid have already made major reinforcements in defence, bringing in Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alvaro Carreras.
