Juventus new signing Joao Mario during his time at Porto

    Key Takeaways:

  • Juventus signed Joao Mario from Porto for €11.4M plus €1.2M in bonuses
  • The deal includes Alberto Costa moving to Porto in a separate €16M transfer
  • Joao Mario signed a contract until June 2030 after passing medical tests

Juventus have officially purchased Joao Mario from Porto for €11.4 million, plus an additional €1.2 million as part of the deal that sends Alberto Costa in the opposite direction. The amount will be paid over four financial years.

The transfer was finalised yesterday, after the player completed medical examinations and signed a contract until June 2030.

Joao Mario is a product of Porto’s academy. Last season, he made 42 appearances and registered 7 assists. The 25-year-old right-back can also play in more advanced positions in midfield or as part of an attacking trio.

As part of the double deal, Alberto Costa joins Porto in a separate transfer worth €16 million. This represents a profit for Juventus, considering he was bought from Vitoria Guimaraes for €12.5 million in January. Alberto Costa played a total of 14 matches for the Bianconeri during the second half of last season.

The two teams recently completed another deal, with Juventus permanently acquiring the rights to Francisco Conceicao following a one-season loan spell in Turin.
