Outstanding Campaign with PSG
The Paris Saint-Germain full-back enjoyed a historic campaign, capturing every available trophy with his club. Throughout the season, Hakimi displayed remarkable consistency and influence, recording 11 goals and 17 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions. His contributions proved decisive in PSG’s Champions League run, as he found the net in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final.

Triumphant After Fierce Competition
Having finished runner-up to Ademola Lookman in the previous year, Hakimi overcame stiff competition from both Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen for this edition of the CAF award. Notably, Salah placed higher than Hakimi in the Ballon d’Or rankings by France Football, but it was the Moroccan who claimed CAF’s top honour. Despite an ankle injury, Hakimi was able to celebrate the win in front of a supportive home crowd in Rabat. He has been open about his desire for this distinction, previously stating to PSG’s club television: “I have worked to get here – for both team and individual awards.”
Moroccan and African Stars Also Recognised
Joining an elite group that includes Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Touré, and George Weah, Hakimi adds his name to the illustrious list of African Footballer of the Year recipients.
In further awards announced on the night, Pedro Brito (Bubista), the manager of Cape Verde’s national team, was named Coach of the Year. Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, now playing for Saudi side Al Hilal, was honoured as the continent’s Best Goalkeeper. The Best Young Player award also stayed with Morocco, as Watford’s Othmane Mama received the accolade.
