Notably, the youngster has featured in each of Marseille’s four UEFA Champions League fixtures, including three as a starter, highlighting the trust placed in him by the manager.
Permanent Move Option and Club’s Intentions
According to Foot Mercato, Marseille possess the option to sign Vermeeren on a permanent basis for €20m at the conclusion of the current campaign. During an appearance on the RMC Sport show After Foot, OM sporting director Medhi Benatia confirmed the club’s desire to extend Vermeeren’s stay beyond his loan spell.
“We have the option. He is a great guy, very calm. The idea is to continue with him. If he likes it – and I think that is the case – and if he wants to still have fun in a great team, he will be welcome because he’s a really good player,” said Benatia.
As Marseille approach the second half of the season, retaining Vermeeren could prove a crucial decision for the club’s future midfield stability and success.
