Forest Strengthen Their Defence with High-Profile Signing

Nottingham Forest have made a significant addition to their defensive ranks, confirming the arrival of Ivory Coast centre back Ousmane Diomande from Sporting. The Premier League side announced that Diomande has signed a four-year contract, which includes an option to extend for a further year.

While the club refrained from disclosing the financial specifics of the transfer, various British media sources reported that the deal for the 22-year-old commands a fee of approximately £34.3 million.

Diomande’s Track Record at Sporting

A graduate of Danish outfit Midtjylland’s youth system, Diomande initially joined Sporting in 2023. He swiftly cemented his place as a pivotal figure in the Lisbon side’s backline. Over his tenure, Diomande featured in 132 matches across all competitions. During this period, he played a key role in helping Sporting secure back-to-back Primeira Liga championships in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns, as well as lifting the Portuguese Cup in 2024/25.

International Experience and Leadership Qualities

Diomande has also made appearances for the Ivory Coast national team, representing his country at this year’s World Cup. Ivory Coast’s campaign concluded in the round of 32, where they were knocked out by Norway.

Forest’s Chief Football Officer George Syrianos expressed his enthusiasm for the club’s latest signing, stating: “Ousmane is a powerful, commanding ‌defender, and arrives here with a winning mentality. He shares the same ambition for success we have, and we are excited to see the impact he can have in a Forest shirt.”

New-Look Forest Ready for the Upcoming Campaign

Following a challenging season where they finished 16th in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest have turned to Austrian manager Oliver Glasner, appointed in July, to spearhead their rebuilding efforts. The club will kick off the incoming campaign with a home fixture against Leeds United on August 22nd, aiming for a much-improved showing in the top flight.
