Contract Uncertainty Emerges Before Atletico Madrid Clash
Alexis Mac Allister’s Liverpool future became a central talking point during the pre-match media duties before the club’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
The Argentina midfielder, who is 27, has two years left on his Liverpool contract. He arrived from Brighton in June 2023 on a five-year deal, but has not been offered fresh terms while team-mates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have both extended their Reds contracts this year.
Mac Allister addressed the media first at the press conference, in what proved to be a notable session. He made clear that the lack of a new proposal from Liverpool had affected him, while also confirming that he had opportunities to leave during the summer but chose not to act on them.
🚨💣 BREAKING! Alexis Mac Allister: “It makes me sad to see I didn’t get a new deal. But there is still time”.
“I will give 100% until the last day I am here. We will see what happens”.

Mac Allister Makes His Position Clear
Speaking before Wednesday’s Champions League game against Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister said: “I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract which, of course, makes me very, very sad,”
He added: “Everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training and games. Of course, I can have very good games [and] bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best.
“I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it.
“At the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine. Of course, there is still time.
“The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100% until the last day I am here.”
Mac Allister, who helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup, has also been linked with a move to Manchester City. He said he has not had direct contact with Liverpool about the decision not to extend his deal.
“We won a Premier League together, we went through difficult times together and I always give my best so we will see what happens,” added Mac Allister, who helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup.
“I don’t think I have to prove something – but I have to show the level I can perform and, hopefully, that’s the case.
“I love this club. I love the fans. I know very well this is an amazing club and this city has something very special. I love being here.”
He added: “There were options to leave this summer. I think right now I’m in the right club and I have the right mindset to give 100% for this club.”
Iraola Responds To Midfielder’s Situation
Andoni Iraola, appointed Liverpool boss this summer after the sacking of Arne Slot, was also asked about Mac Allister’s future. The Spaniard stressed that the midfielder remains highly valued within the squad.
Speaking about Mac Allister’s contract, the Spaniard said: “We all have personal situations with different contracts.
“The important thing is he wants to be here. We haven’t been together a long time but he has been an important player and I rate him very highly.
“There is still a lot of time to talk about those contract situations.”
Iraola also addressed the matter in another response when questioned about the player’s circumstances.
“We all have responsibilities, contracts with a club,” began the Spaniard when asked about Mac Allister’s situation.
“We haven’t been together a lot of time but he is very important and has played a lot of minutes very highly. We have time to talk about those contract situations.”
“I try to help all my players. I hope I can improve my players so I can help them win games. Same with Alexis and everyone else.
“I’m very happy with Alexis and his performances, especially on Friday. I hope I can help him to improve. He’s a very good player.”
