Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares completed a permanent transfer to Lazio, the two clubs confirmed. Last season, he was at the Olimpico on loan with a purchase option, which the Italian club has now activated. According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee is €9 million. The Portuguese player signed a three-year deal with Lazio.

The 25-year-old joined Arsenal from Benfica in the summer of 2021 and made 28 appearances across all competitions in his debut season, scoring once in a 3:1 win over Manchester United. Tavares became surplus to requirements for the Gunners following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko in the summer of 2022. Over the next three seasons, he spent time on loan at Marseille, Nottingham Forest and Lazio.

He recorded nine assists in 30 appearances for the Roman side, who finished seventh in Serie A last season. Tavares also made his debut for Portugal’s senior national team in November in a 5:1 Nations League win over Poland.
