Juventus cruise past Wydad 4:1 to reach Club World Cup last 16

Francisco Conceicao surrounded by 3 Wydad players

    Key Takeaways:

  • Juventus recorded only 3 shots on target but scored 4 goals against Wydad
  • Kenan Yildiz struck twice, including the key third goal late in the match
  • Wydad had 6 shots on target but conceded an early own goal and missed their chances

Juventus expectedly secured their place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup after a 4:1 win over Wydad Casablanca in a Group G match.

The Moroccans conceded an unfortunate own goal by Abelmounaim Boutouil in the sixth minute, and about ten minutes later, the best player on the pitch Kenan Yildiz doubled the Old Lady’s lead.

In the 25th minute, Thembinkosi Lorch brought the game back to life and Wydad created more danger, despite holding possession for only about one-third of the actual playing time.

Everything practically ended about twenty minutes before full time, when Kenan Yildiz once again punished Wydad. Curiously, that came from just the second shot on target (from eight total attempts) by Juve in the game.

In the 94th minute, Dusan Vlahovic scored from the penalty spot to make it 4:1. Interestingly, Juventus finished with just 3 shots on target, compared to 6 on target for the Moroccans.

With this result, Juventus sit on 6 points and can only be overtaken by Manchester City, who have 3 points and face Al Ain tomorrow morning.
