Manchester City storm into Club World Cup knockout stage with 6:0 win over Al Ain

Manchester City qualified for the Round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA after crushing Al Ain from the UAE 6:0 in a Group G match played in Atlanta. The Citizens now have a full tally of 6 points, the same as Juventus, who also secured a spot in the next stage.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the eighth minute, converting on the rebound after Al Ain’s defence cleared a cross from Bernardo Silva.

Echeverri doubled City’s lead in the 27th minute. The young Argentine masterfully curled the ball from a direct free-kick and left Eisa with no chance. Shortly after, Josko Gvardiol rose high in Al Ain’s box following a corner, but his header hit the post.

In added time of the first half, Manuel Akanji was brought down in the penalty area, and after a VAR review, Manchester City were awarded a penalty. Erling Haaland did not miss from the spot – 3:0.

In the 73rd minute, Ilkay Gundogan netted his second goal of the match after receiving a fine pass from Bernardo Silva. Ten minutes later, Oscar Bobb scored City’s fifth, and in the penultimate minute of regular time, Rayan Cherki made it 6:0.
