Bayern Munich have made an enquiry for RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, according to The Athletic. The 22-year-old Netherlands international has informed the club’s management that he wants to leave.

He was a transfer target for Bayern last season as well, but at the time chose to remain at Leipzig after being bought back by PSG. The German club paid €50 million for his rights. Now, Bayern are expected to be more persistent after Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané left the team with expiring contracts, while young midfield star Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury and will be sidelined for a long period.

Simons is under contract with the Red Bulls for another two years. Talks between Bayern and Leipzig have not yet taken place, but the midfielder has made it clear that he is ready for the next step in his career.

Xavi Simons has played 76 matches for Leipzig, scoring 21 goals and delivering 23 assists. A youth product of Barcelona, he has also featured for PSV Eindhoven and PSG.
