Barcelona turn to Rashford after Nico Williams deal falls through

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick during a press conference

    Key Takeaways:

  • Barcelona pursue Marcus Rashford after missing out on Nico Williams
  • Luis Diaz remains Deco’s top target, but deal is unlikely
  • 19-year-old Roony Bardghji to become club’s second summer signing

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has approved the move for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford. The Catalans are actively looking for a left-sided forward after the transfer of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao collapsed.

Liverpool’s Luis Diaz is the player sporting director Deco most wants to sign for this position. However, this deal would be difficult to complete, as the English club is expected to demand a high transfer fee for the Colombian, if they even agree to let him go. In addition, Bayern Munich also have a strong interest in Diaz, and Barcelona do not want to enter such a bidding war. That is why Rashford remains one of the most realistic options.

The Catalans would like to take Rashford on loan with an option to buy next summer. Manchester United, however, insist on selling him immediately and are asking around £40 million for their academy product.

Today, FC Copenhagen talent Roony Bardghji will arrive in Barcelona to become the second summer signing for the Catalans. The Danish club will receive €2 million for the 19-year-old right winger. The two clubs reached an agreement at the end of June, and the player has already completed his medical.
