Bayer Leverkusen join race for Johan Bakayoko

    Key Takeaways:

  • PSV set €25M price tag for Belgian winger
  • Bayer Leverkusen’s UCL status gives them an edge
  • Malik Tillman also close to joining Bayer

Bayer Leverkusen have entered the race to sign Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven, identifying the Belgian winger as the ideal replacement for Florian Wirtz, who recently joined Liverpool. The 22-year-old right-sided forward is also attracting interest from Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

Bakayoko is highly valued by Leverkusen’s technical staff, and the Bundesliga champions see his profile as a perfect fit. PSV have reportedly set an asking price of €25 million. Although Nottingham Forest remain interested, their offer of Conference League football puts them at a disadvantage, with Bakayoko preferring a club that will play in the Champions League—making Leverkusen the frontrunners.

In addition to Bakayoko, Leverkusen are also on the verge of signing his PSV teammate Malik Tillman. The 23-year-old American midfielder has a €35 million release clause and is expected to undergo a medical in the United States in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen could face a battle to retain veteran midfielder Granit Xhaka, as several Italian clubs have turned their attention to him after failing to sign Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge.
