The 25-year-old winger had already agreed personal terms weeks ago and made it clear he only wanted to join United. Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford was delayed due to managerial changes at Brentford and the club’s reluctance to let him go easily. However, United remained persistent and finally received the green light from the London side.
Mbeumo becomes United’s second summer signing after Matheus Cunha. He is expected to reinforce the wings amid the uncertain futures of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony.
Manchester United had three previous bids rejected, the last being worth £60 million plus bonuses. The £70 million package was ultimately enough to satisfy Brentford’s demands.
