Newcastle’s £25M bid for Wissa rejected as Magpies fly to Asia without Isak

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa celebrates after scoring a goal

    Key Takeaways:

  • Newcastle’s £25M bid for Yoane Wissa was rejected by Brentford
  • Wissa returned from pre-season to discuss his future and is pushing for a move
  • Alexander Isak will miss Newcastle’s tour in Asia due to a thigh injury

Newcastle received a firm rejection to their initial offer for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa. The Magpies tabled a bid of £25 million for the player, but that failed to impress the Bees, who promptly turned it down, according to Sky Sports.

Wissa returned to the United Kingdom from Brentford’s pre-season training camp for talks with the club’s management regarding his future. The offer from Newcastle was discussed during those meetings. The 28-year-old player does not want to miss the opportunity to play in the Champions League and has insisted on a transfer. He has one year remaining on his contract with Brentford, with an option for another, and has informed the club he is willing to consider a move to Newcastle.

Some sources claim Brentford value Wissa at around £30 million, while others suggest his price is closer to £40 million. Nottingham Forest also had a £25 million offer rejected earlier in the current transfer window.

Meanwhile, Newcastle released a statement confirming that striker Alexander Isak will not travel with the team to the Far East. The reason is a minor thigh injury, which has ruled him out of the tour in Singapore and South Korea. During the trip, the Magpies are set to face Arsenal, a K League All-Star team, and Tottenham. Isak was also not included in Eddie Howe’s squad for the pre-season heavy 4:0 loss to Celtic.
