According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Getafe tried to sign the young Garcia before the World Cup in the USA, but Los Blancos refused to enter negotiations.
In addition to the new contract, Garcia will also receive another honour — starting this season, he will wear the number 9 shirt, a number previously worn by some of the greatest legends of the Madrid club such as Karim Benzema, Ronaldo Nazario, Hugo Sanchez, Davor Suker, and Alfredo Di Stefano. Last season that shirt belonged to Kylian Mbappe, but the French superstar vacated it after receiving the #10 jersey after Luka Modric’s departure.
