Tottenham Eye Emiliano Martinez as Savinho, Gakpo and Bergval Deals Stall

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zebri
  • Tottenham have accepted a Juventus proposal for Guglielmo Vicario, with the deal structured as a loan plus an option to buy next summer
  • Spurs have made a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, whose proposed switch to Juventus recently collapsed
  • Roberto De Zerbi is blocking Mikey Moore’s expected loan to Cologne until Tottenham add attacking reinforcements

Tottenham Step Up Goalkeeper Search After Vicario Agreement

Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez after agreeing to let Guglielmo Vicario join Juventus.

The north London club have already been highly active as they attempt to reshape Roberto De Zerbi’s squad for the new campaign. Spurs avoided relegation on the final day of the Premier League season last term, and the board are acting aggressively in the market to prevent another campaign of similar pressure.

Tottenham have brought in Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool, Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth, Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m from Brighton, Martin Dubravka on a free transfer from Burnley, Mateus Fernandes for £85m from West Ham and Sandro Tonali for £92.5m from Newcastle United.

Martinez Emerges as Replacement Option

Tottenham have made a move for Martinez, despite having Antonin Kinsky at the club. The 33-year-old Argentina shot-stopper has become available as Aston Villa are understood to be open to allowing him to leave this summer.

Villa’s position has shifted following the arrival of Zion Suzuki from Parma. The Japan international is expected to go straight into the starting XI for the 2026/27 campaign, potentially opening the door for Emiliano Martinez to leave the club. With his place no longer guaranteed, a move elsewhere in the Premier League could now become a realistic option.

Tottenham Step Up Pursuit of Savinho and Gakpo

While that situation develops, Tottenham are pushing ahead with plans to strengthen their attack. Spurs are in negotiations with Manchester City over Savinho, with a deal worth around €100 million under discussion. The winger scored four goals in 36 appearances for City last season.

Cody Gakpo is also a serious target, with Tottenham making progress on a potential move for the Liverpool forward. After talks with Roberto De Zerbi, Gakpo is understood to be keen on joining Spurs and has already agreed personal terms. Tottenham are now preparing to make an official approach to Liverpool this week.

Liverpool value Gakpo at £60M-£70M, while a package of around £65M could be enough to secure a deal.

Bergvall Could Be Sold if Newcastle Meet Spurs’ Valuation

A possible departure is Lucas Bergvall, with Tottenham prepared to consider a sale if Newcastle United meet their asking price.

Spurs value the 20-year-old at around £60M after turning down Newcastle’s £46M offer last month. Bergvall wants more game time, while Newcastle are preparing a new bid and Nottingham Forest remain interested.
