Arne Slot on Liverpool’s quiet summer: We always keep an eye on the transfer market

Liverpool new manager, Arne Slot, has hinted at potential new signings as the club prepares for an active transfer window. “A club like Liverpool always keeps its eye open to see what’s available. It’s about players that can strengthen the squad, that’s what we are looking to do. Not particular to one position” the Dutch specialist stated.

Despite not making any incoming transfers so far, Liverpool enjoyed a successful pre-season tour in the USA, recording three victories. The first two were against Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, while the most recent one saw the Reds prevailing 1-0 over Betis. The strong performances have given Slot the opportunity to assess the squad he inherited at Anfield carefully without a necessity to rush.

The latest reports regarding the Anfield-based club claim that Liverpool is now planning an £80 million move for Newcastle star Anthony Gordon. Gordon, who began his career in Liverpool’s academy before making his senior debut with cross-town rivals Everton, nearly joined Liverpool during Euro 2024 when Newcastle was looking to sell players before the Premier League’s unofficial PSR transfer deadline.

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool fans welcome Gordon back to the city, given his history with Everton. The move would mark Liverpool’s first signing under Arne Slot, signaling the start of a new era at Anfield.
