Luis Enrique closes in on a PSG landmark

Luis Enrique is on the brink of a major place in Paris Saint-Germain history after continuing an exceptional spell in charge of the French champions. Having managed PSG for over three years, the Spanish coach has now reached 126 wins across all competitions following Monday’s 2-0 victory over Lyon.

The win moved him level with Laurent Blanc, the former PSG manager and World Cup champion with Les Bleus, for the highest number of victories recorded by any coach in the club’s history.

Luis Enrique can move clear at the top of that list on Friday, when PSG travel to Normandy for their Ligue 1 meeting with Le Havre. Luis Fernandez sits third in the club’s managerial wins ranking.

Domestic momentum and Champions League ambitions

Beyond the individual managerial record, PSG’s league form has also created another notable storyline. A victory against Le Havre AC on Friday would be their sixth consecutive Ligue 1 win this season, which would leave them one short of their longest run from 2025-26.

At European level, Luis Enrique is also chasing a third straight Champions League title this season, although that challenge is made more difficult by the significant injury problems PSG have suffered recently.

If PSG win the Champions League again next year, they would become only the second club this century to claim the trophy in three consecutive seasons. Real Madrid are the other side to have achieved that feat, doing so under current French boss Zinédine Zidane.

PSG rule out a move for Ibrahim Maza

While Luis Enrique’s team continue to build on the pitch, PSG’s transfer plans are also developing ahead of the winter window. According to RMC Sport, the club will not make an approach for Bayer Leverkusen forward Ibrahim Maza, despite German reports linking the 20-year-old with a move to Paris.

The January market remains an option for PSG as they assess how to respond to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s injury. The Georgian suffered an ACL injury earlier this month and may not play again this season.

PSG do have several internal routes available as they look to compensate for the absence of Kvara, but Luis Enrique has not dismissed the possibility of bringing in a player if the right opening presents itself.

Recruitment flexibility remains in place

Although Maza is not expected to be targeted, PSG are still open to adding a prospect during the January transfer window if a suitable opportunity emerges. Any such move would have to be made at a reasonable price.

The club’s thinking is also not restricted solely to the forward line. Even with Kvaratskhelia’s injury creating an attacking vacancy, PSG would not limit their recruitment to an attacker if they decide to act in the winter market.
