Jonathan Tah set to join Bayern Munich after agreeing personal terms

    Key Takeaways:

  • Jonathan Tah will leave Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer after refusing to extend his contract
  • The German defender has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich and is set to join them this summer
  • Barcelona remain interested but need to sell Ronald Araujo before pursuing a deal

Jonathan Tah has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, making a move to the Allianz Arena after the season increasingly likely, according to various media outlets in Germany. The Bayer Leverkusen defender was close to joining the Bavarians last summer, when he was considered a near-certain signing for much of the transfer window. However, the deal ultimately collapsed, and Tah remained with Leverkusen for one more year.

The centre-back has 35 caps for the German national team and has played 49 matches with 4 goals this season under Xabi Alonso across all competitions.

A few weeks ago, Tah stated that he had informed Leverkusen’s management of his intention to leave on a free transfer and had no plans to negotiate a new contract. Reports indicate he will sign with Bayern and earn around 14 million euros per season.

Barcelona were seriously interested in the defender during the winter window but refused to pay a transfer fee, knowing he would soon become a free agent. The Catalans continue to monitor his situation but must first offload Ronald Araujo in order to finalise a move for Tah.
