Palmer, Sanchez, and Doue scoop Club World Cup individual awards

President of USA, Donald Trump, handing Cole Palmer of Chelsea, the Best Player of the Tournament trophy

    Key Takeaways:

  • Cole Palmer named Best Player of the tournament
  • Desire Doue won Best Young Player award
  • Robert Sanchez voted Best Goalkeeper

Chelsea star Cole Palmer was named Best Player of the Club World Cup. The 23-year-old Englishman featured in six of the Blues’ seven matches in the tournament, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Two of his goals came in the final against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended in a 3-0 victory for Chelsea.

Over the past season, Cole Palmer made a total of 53 appearances, recording 20 goals and 14 assists. Known for his unorthodox goal celebrations, the Englishman did not start the tournament in top form but managed to inspire his team to victory, culminating in a dominant 3-0 win when many believed Chelsea stood no chance against PSG.

The Best Young Player of the tournament was Desire Doue from PSG, while Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez was awarded Best Goalkeeper.

Chelsea won the Club World Cup for the second time in their history, following their triumph in 2021. Only Real Madrid (5) and Barcelona (3) have more titles in the competition.
