Liverpool push for Ekitike as opening bid rejected by Eintracht

Eintracht Frankfurt French forward Hugo Ekitike

    Key Takeaways:

  • Liverpool had an opening €80M offer for Hugo Ekitike rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Talks remain active as Liverpool also monitor Alexander Isak, who is not for sale
  • Newcastle had considered Ekitike a potential replacement if Isak left, but that now seems unlikely

Liverpool are progressing rapidly in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over the potential transfer of Hugo Ekitike, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Anfield club have already submitted their first official offer, which was rejected by the German side. While the exact amount of the bid is not confirmed, it is believed the total package was around €80 million. Eintracht’s executives deemed the proposal below their valuation, but negotiations between the clubs remain fully active.

The situation, however, is directly linked to potential developments involving Alexander Isak from Newcastle. The Merseyside club consider the Swede their preferred option to lead the attack, but the Magpies have made it clear he is not for sale. Reports suggest that Newcastle are ready to reject even an offer worth £120 million.

At the same time, Ekitike has been seen as the main candidate to replace Isak in case of a sale. However, the current state of negotiations almost certainly discourages Newcastle from pursuing the 23-year-old Frenchman. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker impressed last season, registering 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches for the Eagles.
