    Key Takeaways:

  • Aston Villa gave Roma no chance, winning their friendly with 4:0
  • Buendia, Ramsey, Watkins and Malen scored for the English side
  • Roma failed to find a consolation goal despite second-half changes

Aston Villa humiliated Roma 4:0 in a friendly match played in the English town of Walsall. The Birmingham side left no chance to their Italian opponents, with goals from Emiliano Buendia (15’), Jacob Ramsey (17’), Ollie Watkins (40’) and Donyell Malen (85’). Both managers started with lineups close to their best available options, but the teams proved to be far from evenly matched.

In the 15th minute, Buendia opened the scoring with a superbly executed direct free kick. Just two minutes later, Youri Tielemans played an excellent ball through to Jacob Ramsey, who, one-on-one with Roma’s goalkeeper Svilar, doubled the lead – 2:0 for Aston Villa. The Villans’ total domination continued and in the 40th minute Ollie Watkins also scored, heading in from a Buendia cross to make it 3:0.

At halftime, Unai Emery made several changes to his side, and later Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini did the same. The Italians, however, never managed to score even a consolation goal. Their best chance came through substitute Matias Soule, who received a pass from Artem Dovbyk at the edge of the box but was unlucky to hit the crossbar of Villa’s substitute goalkeeper Marco Bizot. Five minutes before the final whistle, Donyell Malen completed the emphatic 4:0 with a solo run.
