One Year at the Helm: Amorim Assesses His Old Trafford Tenure

Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the demanding nature of his initial year as Manchester United’s head coach, expressing hope that he will retain his position at Old Trafford “for many years”. The fixture against Nottingham Forest on Saturday represents one year since his appointment, although he did not officially begin his duties for a further 11 days, and his first match in charge came several weeks later away at Ipswich.

When prompted to reflect on his 12 months at the club, Amorim conceded that the recent upswing in results – with victories over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton – has had a significant impact on his assessment.

“It was a journey, a big journey,” he said. “It was tough, really tough, good moments and bad moments.

‘I learned a lot that is really important. I found out that even in my lower moments I can stick with the things I believe, and that is a good thing for anyone to understand.

‘Today the answer is different from three weeks ago. It’s one of the biggest honours of my life to be here and I want to continue here for many years.’

Squad News: Maguire and Martinez Updates Ahead of Forest Match

As Amorim celebrates his milestone, he faces ongoing injury concerns within the squad. At present, there is uncertainty over whether Harry Maguire will return to action in the trip to Nottingham Forest. The England defender played no part in the recent win over Brighton due to a knock and remains a doubt.

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez has participated in full training for the first time since suffering an ACL rupture in his left knee in February. Despite his eagerness to rejoin the matchday squad, Amorim confirmed the Argentine will not be risked on Saturday.

‘He wants to go to this one, but he’s not going to this one,’ added Amorim. ‘He’s done training with us, so slowly he’s going to get better.

‘He’s really good and he gives us that edge in every training session, that is also really good for us. The rest of the guys we have one more day, I don’t know about Harry Maguire.’
