Pedro rescues Lazio with brace in 2-2 draw against Parma

Pedro Rodriguez celebrates after scoring against Parma

    Key Takeaways:

  • Pedro scored twice to help Lazio recover from a two-goal deficit against Parma
  • Jakub Ondrejka netted both goals for Parma but the visitors failed to hold on
  • Lazio remain seventh in Serie A with 60 points, while Parma edge closer to survival

Lazio salvaged a 2-2 draw at home against Parma in their Serie A Matchday 34 encounter. The Eagles fell two goals behind at the Olimpico after a brace from Jakub Ondrejka, but managed to secure at least a point thanks to two strikes from Spanish veteran Pedro Rodriguez.

Parma took the lead as early as the third minute. Emanuel Valeri played a clever pass into the penalty area for Jakub Ondrejka, who fired without hesitation to make it 0-1.

Lazio thought they had equalised in the 37th minute, but a goal by Taty Castellanos was disallowed for offside. Instead, it was the visitors who struck again in the 46th minute. Once more, Jakub Ondrejka found himself in a good position – his first shot was blocked, but he converted the rebound to double Parma’s advantage to 0-2.

Parma could have sealed the win in the 54th minute when Matteo Pellegrino went one-on-one with goalkeeper Christos Mandas, but failed to beat him.

The key moment of the match came when Pedro entered the fray in the 57th minute, and the 37-year-old Spaniard made a huge difference. In the 79th minute, he reduced the deficit. Loum Tchaouna’s initial shot was saved by goalkeeper Suzuki, but Pedro pounced on the rebound to make it 1-2.

In the 84th minute, the veteran scored his second of the night. He received an excellent cross into the box from Luca Pellegrini and headed home to level the score at 2-2.

Lazio pressed hard until the end, creating more chances but failing to convert them. Parma could have punished the hosts deep into stoppage time in the 93rd minute when Dennis Man broke free behind the defence, but his shot narrowly missed the right post and went out.

Thus, the match ended without a winner. The draw was not the most desired result for the Eagles, who remain seventh in the table with 60 points. Parma, meanwhile, sit 16th with 32 points and are increasingly confident of securing their Serie A status.
