Real Madrid breakout star Gonzalo Garcia responds to Raul comparisons

Gonzalo Garcia has just scored for Real Madrid

    Key Takeaways:

  • Garcia leads the Golden Boot race at the Club World Cup with four goals
  • The Real Madrid striker has scored or assisted in every match of the tournament
  • Garcia says he never even dreamed of such a chance and feels lucky to play with Mbappe

The breakout star of Real Madrid at the Club World Cup, Gonzalo Garcia, commented on comparisons with club legend Raul. The 21-year-old forward has scored four goals in the tournament and currently leads the Golden Boot race alongside Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), Marcos Leonardo (Al-Hilal), and Angel Di Maria (Benfica). However, all three have already been eliminated, leaving Garcia as the frontrunner.

Garcia is enjoying a fantastic tournament, having not only scored four goals but also provided an assist. Remarkably, he has been directly involved in a goal in each of Real Madrid’s five matches at the Club World Cup, underlining his breakout status on the world stage.

“I read that fans are comparing me to Raul, the legend. If I can do even half of what he did in a Real shirt, it would be more than a dream come true. I worked hard, waited for my chance, but I never even dreamed of this.

I don’t feel much pressure. The coach, the players, the staff – they all give me confidence. You could say Kylian Mbappe is the best player in the world. I’m very lucky to play with him, train with him, and learn from him,” said Garcia.

Raul scored 323 goals in 741 appearances for Real Madrid, winning six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies – a legacy that sets the bar for any forward at the club.
