Real Madrid explore Alaba exit options

Real Madrid defender David Alaba

    Key Takeaways:

  • Real Madrid do not plan new signings unless sales are made
  • David Alaba could be offloaded due to injuries and high wages
  • The Austrian has played just 21 league games in two seasons

Real Madrid’s management is reportedly looking for a way to part ways with David Alaba, according to AS. At the end of June, the Austrian international suffered yet another injury, and those at the Santiago Bernabeu have concluded that it would be better for the club to offload him due to his frequent injuries and high salary.

Alaba, who joined from Bayern Munich as a free agent in 2021, earns €12.5 million per season. Last campaign, he featured in only 7 La Liga matches, while the year before he made 14 league appearances.

The defender’s contract runs until the summer of 2026. His intention is to stay with the team and return to peak condition ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Real Madrid have already refreshed their defence with the arrivals of Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alvaro Carreras, meaning that even if fit, Alaba will likely struggle to secure a starting role. The club’s stance is that there will be no more signings unless a sale happens.

Yesterday, the club parted ways with Lucas Vazquez after his contract expired. Earlier in July, Luka Modric and Jesus Vallejo also left after their contracts were not renewed.
