Key Takeaways:

  • Tottenham opened talks for Savinho and Eberechi Eze
  • Spurs have yet to decide on triggering Eze’s £68m clause
  • Man City said Savinho was not for sale but loan option sound possible

Tottenham are in talks simultaneously for Manchester City winger Savinho and Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, who is also a transfer target for Arsenal. According to Fabrizio Romano, the two deals are not connected, with the idea being that the Englishman would replace James Maddison, who will miss most of the season due to injury, while the Brazilian would fill the gap left by the departure of Heung-Min Son.

Eze’s contract with Crystal Palace includes a £68 million release clause, which expires on Friday. Arsenal are unwilling to pay that amount but are preparing an offer of around £60 million, according to reports in England. Before that, however, the London club need to make sales, having already spent heavily on the transfers of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga. It is still unclear whether Tottenham will decide to meet the clause and thus snatch Eze from under the nose of their big city rivals.

Manchester City insist Savinho is not for sale, but reports emerged yesterday that Josep Guardiola wants the club to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid, which could facilitate Tottenham’s plans.
